TRAA Electro Fishing 2011 |
|
Met up with club members @ 9:00 at local private stream. After a quick walkthrough of safety procedures we hit the water. Caught, sampled, tagged and released a dozen gorgeous steelhead. Some females with loose eggs and plenty of males. Three fish over 30" long and 2 that had been tagged a previous year and came back... Great to see Brian, Jim and everyone out there again. We'll be doing this again next weekend and the following weekend if any locals are interested in joining.

Good to make it out after all that travel to southern states. Was fun netting those big fish, 3 over 30 inches, even tho I missed a couple at the beginning til I got back in the grove.

Nope, no more egg collection from the 'bows for a few years... the grants we have are for a 4 year tagging & monitoring program. We are going to take another run at brook trout egg collection & hatching this Fall. We'll be heading up to another hatchery in the Grey-bruce region next month to learn a bit more about the process. We do have an upcoming release of some trout fry in May too..
Unfortunately most of the club activities have to happen on weekends but you are always welcome to join us at a meeting or just being a "distance member" to support the club.
