sideways - Fishing rod in one hand - beer in the
other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming
"WOO HOO, What a Ride!"

I see your point. But the point I am trying to make Eric is the ice is still not that safe. You are showing pictures and saying there is ice as far as you can see. That does not mean it is safe. Eric I used to ice fish alot. This time of year can be very dangerous out on the ice. I am in my way trying to remind the people to be very careful out there. Its not worth it.

Then tell us Eric what were trying to say . Under the Mitchels Bay Ice Update., you are predicting safe walking ice by Saturday. Tell me what that means Eric. Ice on the puddles in your drive or in Mitchels Bay? How far out ? Bad info Eric . JMO You do what you want!

Bruce just because you do not like to participate in ice fishing these days does not mean it is your job to humbug it for the rest of us... There is 3" of ice on that Bay in many spots which is enough to support the average Human Being Right now... Furthermore it is -10c and calm right now. it will be colder tomorrow night and cold all day tomorrow which not only will strengthen what ice is there but will build a considerable amount more of it. If your an experienced ice angler who carries a spud and uses it along with some common sense you will likely be able to enjoy a day on Mitchell's bay this Saturday fishing some of the more shallow areas such as Leagues bay or straight out from the beach. By shallow I mean 4' deep or less.... I know you have a lot of years on the ice and used to enjoy it as much as I do now (privately I hope to get you out at least once this winter) and I know you have the best interests of the gang here on the Board.... I can also tell you that I did walk out myself today and checked the thickness.... I am more of a do as I say person than do as I do... today the ice was not ready for traffic but in my educated opinion Saturday should be fine for experienced Ice anglers fishing over shallow water.

Ice Thickness* Permissible Load
3 inches Single person on foot
4 inches Group in single file
7-1/2 inches Passenger car (2-ton gross)
8 inches Light truck (2-1/2-ton gross)
10 inches Medium truck (3-1/2-ton gross)
12 inches Heavy truck (8-ton gross)
15 inches 10 tons
20 inches 25 tons
30 inches 70 tons
36 inches 110 tons
*Solid clear blue/black and lake ice.
Slush ice has only half the strength of blue ice.
Strength value of river ice is 15 percent less.
