BBQ'd Spring Sucker |
|
I know a lot of you guys thought I was nutz when I mentioned the idea of eating Sucker, but hey 2 weeks later I'm still here and feeling fine.
So for those of you brave enough to try it here is how I cooked them.
I started by gutting them. Then I chopped off the head and tail. Now I didn't scale them because I was lazy but in future I will definitely be taking the time to scale them before cooking, less mess.
Next I laid them each on a piece of tinfoil shiny side up. Then you fill the body cavity with a bit of butter and whatever spices you want. I chose Garlic powder and some sea salt, with a small squirt of Lemon juice.
Next I wrapped them up and popped them on the BBQ (or in the oven) on medium heat for about 15mins a side depending on the size of the fish you may want to vary that a bit.
And here is the delicious result.
**Note: watch out for the bones although the rib bones are nice and big and easy to pick out, they have some small Y bones along the top. So be careful I don't need anyone's wife or girlfriend coming on here to yell at me because one of you tried it and choked on a Y bone. You've been Warned!! That being said it is worth it for the delicious taste.

If you want a european flavour try pickling them! Yum!! On a side note suckers love blue sponge. Just cut them into small pieces and put them on a hook.

Interesting so you mean like just a house hold sponge?
I'll have to try that sometime, Thanks.
