This is a really good recipie for Bannock. Bannock is basically a yeastless bread that can be easily cooked on a stick over a campfire or in a frying pan with a bit of butter/lard. It is extremly tasty.

Campfire Bannock

Ingredients:
4 cups flour
8 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
about 3 cups cold water

Directions: Mix dry ingredients thoroughly and stir in enough water to make a thick batter that will pour out level. Mix rapidly with spoon until smooth. Pour into large greased frying pan and set on fire. Turn when bottom is brown. Cook until no dough sticks to sliver of wood poked into the middle.

Alternative Cooking Instructions: Wrap batter around stick and roast over fire like a marshmallow or hotdog.

Warning it is very sticky and can be very messy, but is totally worth it.

Good post Crazy, I grew up in my earliest years in Ontario and New Brunswick fly fishing brook trout streams with my dad. My dad was an awesome man. He was an artist, a writer, a fly fisher and he had a good handle on life. Some of my fondest memories are meals cook out doors with him after a good day of fishing, brookies, bannock, a gold glass of milk and a chunk of cheese. Thanks for the great memories. I have enough things to write about but I am writing a book about growing up and fishing with my dad. It is not the most exciting book in the world but if just one father and son read it I will have accomplished my goal and hopefully made a positive contribution.

Just another note this bread can be wrapped around a hot dog and cooked at the same time. It ends up acting like a bun.

Nothing tastes better then fresh Bannock and fish. (It goes well with Sucker Razz Razz )

And it's so simple and easy it can be packed easily for shore lunch. Or make it at home to try it. Even the kids will like this one as you can get them to help with the mixing (just be careful it gets sticky!).
