Okay guys we have a good local Ice base but Mother Nature is not co-operating today or tomorrow. Assuming our base survives tomorrows heavy rains (which I think it Will) the forecast looks good for restoring and building more ice. Tomorrow night's low temperature is going to dip down into the low 20's.

Surprised Tomorrow
Rain and Snow Mixed, High 45°, Low 24°
Falling temps & bitter cold wind chills and gusts between 40-50mph!

Very Happy Tuesday
Mostly Cloudy, High 27°, Low 19°
Snow likely late Tues.-Tuesday night...2"-3" possible.

Very Happy Wednesday
Snow, High 30°, Low 24°
Slick start with snow diminishing.

Very Happy Thursday
Snow, High 33°, Low 14°
Snow returning late in the day.

Very Happy Friday
Rain and Snow Mixed, High 33°, Low 22°
Messy mix?

Cool Saturday
Mostly Cloudy, High 30°, Low 23°

Well my predictions for the past weekend seemed to be close to bang on. Looking to the long range , weather patterns that are developing , and history, I will go out on a limb and state you hard water guys may start to see some real good ice by New Years. It will depend or whether or not the computer models change in the next week or so. Right now they are showing below normal temps.

i see that detroit has a severe weather watch in effect and are calling for snow -this won't be good for the ice building or early season ice fishing -- makes it pretty dangerous from my point of view

Caveman you are absolutely right. Heavy snows will insulate the ice and it will take longer to build good ice. It can also hide open water areas in amongst what appears to be areas of safe ice.

thats exactly how i see it --// seen it in the past more than once --// seen accidents because of it -- have to wait an see what really happens -- heres hoping for the best ice building conditions

Even high winds are bad at this point -- lets air get under the ice wear open water meets the ice -- when wind dies down the ice settles and is very unpredictable ....

you got that right....look at the long term forcast for the next week(wallaceburg)...looks beautiful...cold all week, with very little wind the majority of it....lows of -13 projected for next monay an tuesday...

Now that the bay is frozen up and looks like itll stay like that for some time im waiting on the sydenham....we need very cold nights for it to freeze up and get ready, not to mention the water level to drop about 5 feet...Probably quite a ways off yet but i can dream Cool
Edit...Woops forgot to put the link up!

You hardheads have to pray we don't get a lot of snow, That will slow ice formation. Tread carefully!
