this thread makes me happy and hungry. I LOVE everyones else ideas and will be trying them for sure. If you're looking for a quicker way of doing them here is what I do
In a large stock pot I bring to boil a dark beer/water mixture and a jar or two of diana's rib sauce. I let them slow boil for about an hour. Then I fire up the grill and cook them slow over low heat, basting them with bbq sauce. I too add foil packets of soaked applewood chips. mmmmmmm mmmmmmmm

Ohhhhhhhhh......... Now I'm hungry. That's a great link! Bookmarked already. The Myths part about boiling ribs got me. I have forever boiled first, just because that is what I learned. I am now more educated. Thank you Sir!

Now this may be sacrilege to all the slow cook fans out there but i hate taking hours/days to cook ribs and even though they is not my favourite food the girlfriend and she is a true rib lover so here it is.
Put 2 whole racks in a PRESSURE COOKER Cheap ones work
Add half a can of apple juice and 4 sliced apples
Season to taste
Bring cooker to pressure and cook for 20 minutes
Take ribs out and cut into individual portions
BBQ and sauce to taste takes about 15 minutes
Meat will fall off the bone and tasty. Best part is all the grease is taken out by the pressure cooker
Ribs in less than an hour
