Are winds good or bad for fishing? |
|
Why does wind matter so much and which directions are good winds if any?
Is it because it mixes up the water so much? I suppose because LSC is so shallow it can really cause problems?
how does this all affect the fishing? Wouldn't you just have to fish in deeper waters?

north and east fishing the least, south and west fishing the best, on that note I have also had really good days fishing in really really strong north winds but 90% of the time in my eyes bad time too fish.

All the discusions about wind are more a mater of when you can get out and boat control. Going out in the lakes can be a rough experience and I have seen many go green and chum the water. With an offshore wind the waves may be next to nothing at shore. A mile out 1foot. 3 miles out 3 feet. Further out can be 5 or 6 footers. Running with them to get to port can be a rock and roll experience. Running against them can be a very bad ride.
Wind is better for fishing than not at all but it also messes up and stains the water. As far as wind direction it depends on the lake as to which wind is better or worse. In lake Huron a north wind funnels the waves into the south end of the lake and the river mouth so it can be rough real fast.
